COVID-19 Virus Explained

The coronavirus causes the disease COVID-19

Coronavirus is the name of the virus that causes the disease named COVID-19. Coronavirus a novel virus, meaning it is new to humans. It has spread so quickly and easily between humans that it now is defined as a pandemic or a disease which spreads itself to multiple continents or worldwide. Coronavirus is now a pandemic because residents in countries throughout the world have become infected with the virus. HIV is an example of a pandemic because people in countries around the world have contracted HIV, it is not isolated to one location.

COVID-19 Hand Washing Tips for Prevention

Effective Hand Washing Prevents the Spread of this Virus from your Hands to Face and to Others

Older people and people with compromised immune systems are at greater risk of getting very sick or dying.

Basic Hygiene and Infection Control

Hygiene and Infection Control

Learn how to maintain good hygiene for both the senior client and caregiver and safety to protect yourself and control infections. How to wash hands, use gloves properly, protect your face and body, and assist seniors with good daily hygiene.

Superspreaders and the Most Vulnerable

Superspreaders are People with Immune Systems that More Easily Spread a Virus

Pandemics sometimes have "superspreaders" and superspreading events. This happens because for reasons that are still not completely understood, some people's genetics enable them to have a very high "viral load" and to shed a lot more virus than other people. They may be spreading the virus before they have full-blown symptoms and are being isolated and careful.

Online/Blended courses are the same courses as the classroom trainings- the difference is the class room portion is completed online rather than in the classroom and students usually complete this portion in less time than the classroom lecture course. Online/Blended training combines the convenience of online training with a shortened face to face session.

Here's how it works!

Part 1. Each student independently completes the course lecture portion, online, at their convenience, at their pace.

Part 2. Your Face to Face skill practice & testing session will take place either immediately before or after the CPR/AED classroom session. Or you may contact Justin at 805.308.2252 and arrange your First Aid skill testing session at another time that is convenient for you.

Part 3. Satisfactorily perform the physical skill components at the evaluation session. Complete & pass a written exam. Receive certification that is valid for 2 years.

You will be receiving an email with a link to get into the Basic First Aid class. Please bookmark this link, as you can return to it often. You can begin and re-start the online class at your convenience. After each lesson, there is a quiz. If you have not worked on the class for a few days, a reminder email will be sent to keep you on track. You need to have Adobe flash 8.0 or newer to operate the blended class and videos.

You MUST Print off and bring the First Aid Completion certificate to your skill session or you will not be issued a certification card.

Your Skill session will be held immediately before the classroom CPR/AED course.

(This is not an ONLINE ONLY Class because you are required to do a face to face session with an Authorized Instructor to ensure you understand the content, can perform the skills and take a written test. ONLINE ONLY courses never have the student tested for skill competency or content understanding.)
